Nail Fungus Treatment
Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the toenails and fingernails that results in thickening, discoloration, and splitting of the nails. It can also cause the lifting of the nail from the nail bed.
This infection is caused by different species including Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Candida sp., and Aspergilus niger.
There are a few nail treatments options available including topical and oral medication but none of these treatments provide a lasting cure.
With the Fotona laser we treat fungal infection safely and effectively.
The light is transferred into heat that kills the infection, creating inflammation and stimulating your own immune response.
Several treatments are required. The success rate depends on age and nail condition and is usually between 30% and 80%.
Re-infection will occur in genetically predisposed individuals. We recommend a single treatment every 6 to 18 month as a maintenance therapy.
