PRE-TREATMENT PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS
If you have a history of cold sores, we recommend oral anti-viral prophylaxis, as recommended by your doctor, on the night before and on the day of treatment. This treatment is contraindicated during pregnancy if you have a pacemaker or AICD. You should inform us if you are taking any prescription medications, aspirin, or blood thinners or have any medical conditions. On the day of treatment, please thoroughly wash your face and do not apply any make-up, lotions, sunscreen, or any other cosmetics to the skin of the treatment area before arriving at our facility.
We will apply a topical anesthetic an hour before your treatment.
We will completely remove the anesthetic wipe clean with an alcohol wipe and sanitize the treatment area with an antiseptic scrub before your treatment.
POST-TREATMENT PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS
- We may apply a healing-enhancing moisturizer post-treatment. You may experience mild crusting 1-5 days following treatment. Crusts will disappear naturally in several days. Please do not pick at the crusts.
- Please avoid harsh topical products containing any exfoliants, AHA/BHA, glycolic acid, lactic acid, retinoids or alcohol-based toners for two weeks. Otherwise, after 24 hours, you may resume your normal skin care regimen or as directed by your physician.
- Please avoid vigorous activity, excessive heat, or sun exposure for at least 72 hours post-treatment.
- Please avoid sun exposure for the first day and beginning on the second day, apply a noncomedogenic, broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunblock with SPF of at least 30, daily. Until the skin returns to normal, when outdoors, always use an umbrella, hat, or other available protection against sunlight.
- Please wait a minimum of 3 weeks for your next treatment. Usually, 4-6 weeks is typical between treatments. Most patients achieve the best results with 2-4treatments.
- 1 day Post Treatment: Redness and transient edema, the skin begins to turn to a condition similar to before treatment.
- 3 days-1week Post-Treatment: Brighter skin tone and a significant reduction in sebum secretion in oily skin types.
- 1-month Post-Treatment: Improvement of fine wrinkles and skin laxity. 1-3 months Post-Treatment: Continuous improvement of fine wrinkles, pore size, scars, and skin laxity.
- Common expected skin reactions include erythema (redness), edema (swelling), transient pin-point bleeding, and very slight discomfort after treatment. Pin-point bleeding should stop within minutes after application, discomfort within a few hours, and erythema and edema gradually diminish and return to normal in 1 to 3 days.
- Crusting begins to appear 1–2 days after treatment and sloughs off in 3–5 days.
Other less common skin reactions include petechiae (transient pin-point bleeding) which fades in a few days or bruising (purpura) which can take up to a week to disappear.
Other skin reactions include irritation, itching, and burning sensation. These reactions typically subside in a few hours to 1 day but may get aggravated with heat or sweating. If these reactions continue, we may consider evaluating you for possible infection, changing your skin care regimen, and/or prescribing a short-term use of a mild topical steroid cream.
